YouTube Just Made Search Smarter — But Are We Sacrificing Choice for Convenience?

As someone who works in UX, I actually welcome the 'Prioritize' rename. 'Sort by' is passive. 'Prioritize' suggests the user is actively shaping their feed. It’s a subtle nudge toward engagement. And the removal of niche filters? Most users never touched them. This is usability over power-user fetishism.

Honestly, I just search for 'funny cats' and click the first thing with meowing. All this filter stuff is over my head. But if it means I see more cat shorts, I’m not mad.

The merging of 'Dislike' and 'Not Interested' is a massive step backward for algorithmic transparency. 'Dislike' was a value judgment. 'Not Interested' is behavioral noise. Blurring that line means YouTube no longer cares about nuanced feedback — only consumption patterns.

Oh great, now I can finally prioritize the content I don’t care about. Thanks, YouTube. Can’t wait for the next update where they ‘enhance discovery’ by auto-playing only cat videos and asking for my DNA.

Y’all are overthinking this. YouTube is optimizing for the 95% who just want quick, relevant content. The hardcore filters didn’t serve most people. Let them build what users actually use.

Exactly. You don’t design a car dashboard for race car drivers. You design it for the average commuter. YouTube’s playing to its majority.

And who defines what’s 'relevant'? The algorithm, trained on engagement, not ethics. This isn’t neutrality — it’s curation disguised as convenience.

Next update: 'Prioritize Pain'. Filter: 'Why is this on my feed'. Button: 'Send me to therapy'.
